Report On the Study of possible Mobile Financial Services in Jamaica
Carl Rosenquist

Last modified: 2011-12-10

Abstract

This report defines a feasible way to implement mobile financial services in Jamaica leveraging the existing wholesale backbone infrastructure in Jamaica as well as the existing retail payment network i.e. the interbank payment services backbone network consisting of the National Payment System components Real Time Gross Settlement System (RTGS), the Jamaica Automatic Clearing House (ACH), the Bank of Jamaica Central Securities Depository (CSD) and the shared EFTPOS / ATM Switching Services provided by the MultiLink system.

Mobile financial services would in addition to the existing payment systems backbone be integrated with the Mobile Network Operator (MNO) networks in Jamaica for the delivery of the financial services through cell phones.

The report is built on an analysis of alternative options for the delivery of Mobile Financial Services in Jamaica and incorporates a Business Model for introduction of mobile financial services in Island.
