Digital Crimes Unit Director for Latin America Emerging Markets.

The Microsoft Digital Crimes Unit (DCU), is an international legal and technical team. Microsoft has cybercrime experts across the areas of malicious software crimes, IP crimes, and technology-facilitated child exploitation. The team is comprised of more than 100 attorneys, investigators, business professionals, and forensic analysts.

Miguel leads Microsoft’s efforts to create partnerships with governments to promote technology public policy objectives (including data privacy) and help governments to fight cybercrime and intellectual property crimes in more than 30 countries located in the Caribbean, Central America and South America.

Since February 2010, for example Microsoft has disrupted more than eight botnets tied to criminal organizations committing consumer, financial and advertising fraud and has developed tools and Technologies to help Governments fight Cybercrime and protect vulnerable populations.

In addition Miguel provides legal support and addresses public policy positions on data privacy and cloud computing, helping governments in the Caribbean shape public policy on cloud computing and data privacy. For example, Miguel has recently served as speaker and collaborated in a white paper on public policy in the era of cloud computing; prepared for Ministers and Senior Officials and attendees of the Caribbean Telecommunications Union (CTU), the Commonwealth Secretariat, the Organization of American States (OAS), and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) on the occasion of the Caribbean Stakeholders’ Meeting: The Importance of ICTs and their Impact on Regional Development, May 26-28, 2014 in Port of Spain, Trinidad.

Originally from Argentina, Miguel is a lawyer and has an LL.M (Master in Laws) from The University of Texas School of Law and a J.D. from the University Of Buenos Aires School Of Law. Miguel has been working as a legal professional for more than 12 years.
