Mona School of Business and MSB Roundtable
Mona School of Business (MSB) is an institute of the University of the West Indies, the foremost tertiary training institution in the CARICOM region. Over the past twenty four years, MSB has earned a reputationfor delivery of high quality executive and professional development courses, academic programmes, consultancy, conferences and seminars.Under the leadership of Executive Director, Professor Evan Duggan, MSB has five organizational units including Academics, Centre of Excellence, Finance and Administration, Telecommunications Policy and Management and Professional Services.

The mission of MSB is to produce world class transformational leaders equipped to shape the economic development of the Caribbean. In this regard, a key initiative launched in 2010 is the MSB Roundtable series - an annual forum where organizational leaders, in the Caribbean, find solutions to their most pressing problems by engaging international experts and academia in meaningful dialogue.

The first of these events, MSB Roundtable 2010 was held in partnership with the Caribbean Association of Actuaries and the UWI Department of Mathematics at Mona Visitors’ Lodge at the University of the West Indies from May 4-5, 2010 under the theme “Managing Risk for Growth and Development.”This was successfulwith over 40 senior leaders introduced to new strategies and tools for anticipating and coping with different types of organizational uncertainties.MSB Roundtable 2011 was held, a year later, in partnership with Deloitte ToucheRohmatsu and Turnaround Management Association, on June 16, 2011 under the theme “Organizational Renewal: From Recession to Recovery and Growth. This event was also successful and the 73 business leaders and public sector administrators in attendance deliberated effective strategies for business recovery from losses and insolvency.Caribbean leaders are now looking forward to MSB Roundtable 2012 for new insights on how to achieve organizational growth in the present and for the future.

The Need
Organizational growth is needed in all economic sectors of the Caribbean to increase the standard of living of citizens and establish a solid foundation for future generations. The global business climate is propelled by the rapid pace of change, unrestricted access to information and intensifying competition. Caribbean organizations are challenged by limited revenue streams and relatively low productivity in a world more unforgiving of managerial ignorance and mistakes. Against these realities, several important questions arise for meaningful dialogue betweenorganizational leaders and academia. What global, regional and local trends and events are likely to have the greatest impact on Caribbean organizations in the short and medium terms? How can organizational leaders recognize and pursue attractive commercial opportunities at an early stage? How should organizational leaders overcome obstacles to organizational growth? MSB is an ideal vehicle through which the answers and solutions can be discussed and disseminated for the following reasons:

  • MSB, by way of its Professional Services Unit, has the management experience, research capability and consultancy expertise to collaborate with international experts, on issues of business and commerce,to test and translate global prescriptions in the context of Caribbean realities

  • MSB,through regional channels at the University of the West Indies, is able to leverage its Caribbean reach and network to get relevant information quickly into the hands of key decision-makers in private and public sector entities.

  • MSB has a history of staging similar dialogues and information exchanges such as the Caribbean Business Renewal conference held in Kingston, Jamaica on July 17, 2009 and two prior MSB Roundtable events in 2010 and 2011.

MSB Roundtable 2012 Objectives
MSB Roundtable 2012 has the following objectives:

  1. To provide a forum for leaders of private and public sector organizations in the Caribbean to meet and exchange views with international experts and academia about solutions to the problems of organizational growth in the present and for securing the future.
